We made this one before we knew it was a real cocktail with a real name. Apparently, it's called a Rickshaw Cocktail, and would be even more delicious with a cucumber garnish. We mixed up the ingredients ourselves as a way to experiment with our new basil syrup, which we made just like our ginger syrup, but with 1/2 cup of fresh basil. We're keeping this syrup refrigerated--not that it will last long, as we made a small batch and it smells so earthy and full of summer that we'll no doubt drink it right up. We made these with Green Hat Gin, which comes from a local DC brewery; Green Hat is the most distinctive gin I've ever tasted--it's sweet and almost floral. If using a more mid-range gin, you might prefer to use a full ounce of your simple syrup.
